Save the World Tour: Cleveland
For the second stop on the ‘Save the World’ Tour, we teamed up with members of ‘THE HARVEST’ gospel choir, to pay a visit to the Highland Pointe Health & Rehabilitation Center for activity time with the residents. Our 1.5 hour activity window was filled with an abundance of positivity, laughter and even more trash-talking as we played “Pok-e-no,” a variation of Bingo, but played with cards as opposed to the letter-number format.
It was an amazing experience being able to spend time with the elderly, who according to the Director of Activities, Reverand Clifton Rawlings, don’t have visitors often and appreciate any and all interaction with people from the outside that come in to spend time. As much as it was said that we made the residents’ day, our volunteers’ day was made as well.
It was a fulfilling experience to interact with everybody during our time, all the while being able to help out the residents during play, cheer them on for their victories and learn about them and their stories. It’s amazing to know that in such a short amount of time, so much impact can be made to complete strangers just by providing some quality time and interaction.
In our quest to do our part to make the world a better, more united place, it’s important to not forget about the individuals that came before us, lived their lives to the fullest while they were able, paved the way for generations to come, but at this point in life, may not have the people or memories still with them. We encourage everybody to experience some time at a nursing home in your community even if it’s just once, so that you can see how much your presence can mean to somebody else.
There are homes in every city across the nation, and all are typically open for volunteers. If you’re in Cleveland and would like to visit Highland Pointe, click here for how you can set up a day and be the light that makes somebody’s day.
We appreciate all of the volunteers that gathered together to make this stop possible and hope they are inspired to continue to serve going forward!
