Coachella 2018 Recap
Coachella, excuse me, I mean BEYchella was nothing short of amazing. I’ve been to a lot of music festivals and this by far was the best one.
Leading up to the performance there were lots of speculation about what headlining song Beyoncé would perform. Some fans were concerned because she hadn’t released any new music. Others thought it had the potential to be a Formation World Tour part two. Well, Bey was sure to put all doubt and concern to bed and prove to us yet again why she is arguably the greatest performer ever!
I won’t go into too much detail because it’s been all over social media and national news channels but Queen Bey’s performance was legendary! Not only did she have over 100 dancers diverse in shape and ethnicity, she also gave us the Destiny’s Child reunion we’ve all been craving, as well as a cameo from her husband and rap legend, Jay Z and a cute dance duo with her younger sister, Solange.
As the first black woman to ever headline Coachella, Beyoncé surely left her mark & her performance will be talked about for a long time. If you live under a rock or somehow missed the highlights of her HBCU homecoming themed performance, check out #beychella on Instagram.
In addition to Beyoncé the two other headliners, The Weeknd and Eminem also put on shows to remember. The Weeknd cried, yes cried while performing his song “Wasted Times,” which is rumored to be about his ex, Bella Hadid. Eminem on the other hand didn’t get emotional but he brought out Dr. Dre and 50 Cent sending the crowd into total pandemonium.
If people aren’t referring to Coachella as Beychella then they’re most likely calling it Boachella because new kid on the block, Cardi B, shut it down as well. Fresh off of her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, the pregnant rapper brought out many heavy hitters to help her kill her performance on the main stage.
G-Eazy, YG, Chance the Rapper, Kehlani, and 21 Savage all joined the chart topping sensation to perform songs from her already Certified Gold album. Despite being pregnant, like super pregnant, Cardi B put on an amazing performance and left festival goers begging for more after her 35 minute time slot.
Other memorable performances included; 6LACK, Alina Baraz, Chloe x Halle, Jacob Banks, Miguel, SZA, Tyler, the Creator, and Vince Staples. Although I saw so many musical acts, there are a ton that I didn’t catch. I can totally understand why someone would go to both weekends if they had the opportunity.
When I wasn’t watching musical performances, I was laying on the lawn, indulging in a piping hot corn dog and garlic fries from one of the various food stands or checking out some of the unique art.
Coachella 2018 was definitely a weekend I won’t forget. With a $430 price tag for just the ticket, I’m not sure if I need to go again next year but, depending on the line up, I just might!
Did you go to Coachella this year? Who was your favorite performer? I’d love to hear from you.
